The Moon Drug Epidemic

It is the year 2135. Planet Earth is finally in a state of ease. ManKind has become attuned to the environment as the result of a global response to global warming. Everyone has accepted their role in the future of humanity and its fragile presence. All prominent countries have formed alliances to continue human evolution to a higher state of terrestrial understanding through applied research and further exploration. After several successful sub-orbital and space based experiments with humans, the civilization places a permanent habitat on the moon. This project was the largest collective effort ever undertaken by humans.
The operation was launched 75 years ago. However, we have had no contact with the moon base for 40 years, today. We know they are alive, we can see them with our telescopes, working...

working on what is the question. When the program was at its peak 45 years ago the moon base and its elite team of inhabitants worked diligently on cures for humanities aliments. They came across a big success. Within 5 years of their arrival on the moon they began production of a chemical made from un-dead bacteria from the depths of the earth. The scientific discoveries were unraveling at an unbelievable pace. The program got more and more funding from governments from around the world wanting access to these beneficial drugs. As the moon researchers got more funding so came fame. They became arrogant with their abilities and place within societies hierarchy. Some on Earth believed they should rotate astronauts to man the moon laboratories but it would have been too expensive for any more oversight. Overtime it is believed that the laboratories produced a fountain of youth formula which would be the only explanation why the laboratories are running past the astronauts life expectancy.
